Poultry farm: Packaging costs

Depending on your method of selling your produce, you may have to spend quite a lot on specialist packaging. If you plan to have a laying flock and to sell your eggs to retailers rather than to a packer, then you will need egg packaging trays and boxes. According to guidance published by Scotland's Rural College, packaging costs start at around 5 pence per dozen but can vary significantly depending on how much automation your systems have as well as the scale of your egg producing operation.
